The third annual Heart Art Gala was held on February 6th at the Nanton Community Hall. This was a phenomenal year for donations to the Heart Art Gala and raised approximately $3770.00 to support the programs provided by SNAPS.
We had over 60 donations of art for this year’s event. Art came from Siblings, children, teens, and adults with Special Needs, as well some schools that wanted to show their support with students donating art pieces.
Nanton JT Foster, Cayley, Senator Riley, Joe Clarke and High River Nursery schools had students who donated a selection of art to this year’s Auction.
Return artists from last year include: Sharon, Miles, Matthew R., Stephanie, Jessica, Harve, as well as artists Don Hamm and Sue Stegmeier of High River. The donations included, metal art, photos, original and prints of paintings which included water colors, oil, pencil crayon and charcoal pencil.
“It was overwhelming this year with the contributions of art and the willingness to help SNAPS, we have art pieces from as far away as Calgary and Okotoks to as close to home as Nanton – just a wonderful response” stated lead volunteer organizer Sandy Rhodes (SNAPS Board Member). This year Sandy had an assistant Connie Kjinserdahl (Nanton SNAPS Board Member) who became the right hand assistant to Sandy after she suffered a stroke about 3 weeks prior to the GALA. Connie and Sandy stayed in touch to ensure that everything went off without a hitch and between the two of them pulled off a huge success.
“Events such as this take the support of the community and volunteers, we would like to thank the Auctioneer – Bernie Lalonde and his wife Susan for donating their time and services and to Shawna, Kim, Keith, Mike, Matthew, Mariah, Connie, Susan, Stephanie, Jessica and Carol for your time and willing hands that took care of all of the necessary duties” stated Lorraine Forsen, President of SNAPS. We thank all of those who braved the weather from across the area to come out and celebrate with us during this awareness, fund raising event.
We were also granted a surprise on this wonderful evening. In November 2008 the Nanton Fire Department had chosen SNAPS as their charity of choice for their Nanton Fireman’s Ball. On February 6th SNAPS was presented with a cheques for $600.00 to go towards programming to support families. This was graciously accepted by Connie Kjinserdahl and Sandy Rhodes.
