Certificate of School Completion
During the CASS/Alberta Education Special Education Symposium the Minister of Education formally announced the Certificate of School Completion, which will be awarded to students with significant cognitive disabilities. The Certificate of School Completion is distinct from other certificates awarded by Alberta Education and is meaningful in recognizing the unique achievements of these students.
The first recipients of the certificate are being recognized at commencement ceremonies across the province this year. When they receive their certificates, it will be accompanied by a congratulatory letter from the Minister. The certificates will be awarded at the same time as other Alberta Education diplomas and certificates.
Schools must complete a nomination form for each qualifying student and submit them to the department between May 15 and June 30, 2008. We acknowledge that timelines are short for completing the nomination process for students who will leave school in 2008. We have done our best to ensure the nomination process is simple and straight forward.
A pilot process has been developed for creation of a Transcript of Student Competencies for implementation 2008-2010.
